The Detroit Recreation Department has announced the third component of its Future Leaders In Progress (FLIP) Initiative: late night programming for young adults 17-24 years old from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at three recreation centers.
Funded by the Kellogg Foundation in cooperation with Detroit City Connect, the FLIP Initiative is designed to equip participants from targeted areas of the city of Detroit with skills that will help them to have successful futures. The focus of the FLIP Initiative is to engage young adults 17 – 24 years of age in activities (basketball, swimming, interactive gaming, hip hop dance instruction, exercise and weight room activities, table game instruction and tournaments); violence reduction and education; graphic design instruction; entrepreneurship workshops; financial literacy; Building Healthy Minds and Bodies for Success; and introduction to local, regional and statewide educational and technical programs.
The Detroit Recreation Department will conduct late night programming and activities two days each week from September 24 through December 20 at three locations:
Crowell Recreation Center | 16630 Lahser Rd
