Detroit Public Schools Board OKs Vaccine Requirement for Teachers, Staff

Detroit Public Schools Board of Education agreed to a new vaccine mandate that requires all teachers and staff to be fully vaccinated by Friday, February 18, FOX 2 reported.The school board OK’d the mandate that would impact a small number of staff members who have yet to be vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the article.

Medical and religious exemptions are allowed for staff members, however, they are expected to be regularly tested and wear a face covering, the Detroit Free Press reported. Staff members who don’t abide by COVID-19 protocols could potentially be dismissed.

“This policy I think is a step toward using the tools that are now available to us in the pandemic to keep students in school,” Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said adding that there were 150 positive cases in unvaccinated people made 483 students and 99 staff members to quarantine this school year.
