Nearly 200 bulletproof vests are set to be donated to war-torn country Ukraine.
The Detroit Police Department, alongside Wayne County sheriffs, will be donating 165 bulletproof vests, which would have been recycled, used elsewhere, like in training exercises, or distributed to other police agencies because they have expired – but are still in good condition, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
These particular vests are worn by the special response teams, as well as patrol officers, per the report.
“If we can send something over to help US citizens fighting, as well as those military people in law-enforcement officers over there, it makes me feel good,” said Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington in the article.
“This is a very special thick response Kevlar special response team vest,” Chief James White, Detroit police said in the article. “It’s designed to resist high-powered rounds, and we also have a trauma plate that goes in that that sits right in front of the heart.”
How the bulletproof vests will be sent to Ukraine is top secret because of security issues, per the article.
