“I can smile. I’m excited,” said Detroit Police Chief James Craig in his first press conference returning to active duty.
The Michigan Chronicle previously reported Chief’s Craig COVID-19 diagnosis.
“It’s certainly been a journey, but I really just want to thank Detroit for your outpouring of prayers and well wishes. When you’re fighting a deadly disease, one of the things that gets you through is the people who are reaching out,” said Craig.
Despite testing positive, Craig chose home treatment instead of checking into a hospital.
“One of the things I did not want to do was go to the hospital. I wanted to fight from home because I knew there were others that were in greater pain and greater need than I. I was just fortunate that I was able to recover and fight the good fight in quarantine from my home.”
Craig thanked Assistant Chief James White for running day-to-day operations in his absence and also expressed gratitude for Mayor Duggan for not only reaching out daily, but also for his strong leadership.
“I really want to applaud him for his leadership…When you are in leadership positions, making the right decisions really does matter and certainly our mayor has done that.”
Mayor Duggan also at the press conference announced the demand for testing at the state fairground site is slowing down so next week it could open up to essential employees and people not showing symptoms at all.
Additionally, despite being prepared for the worst, TCF regional care facility still has only 16 patients. You may recall the Michigan Chronicle previously reported TCF prepared 1,000 beds for potential patients.
