Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) tap Fred Hunter as Next Chief Executive Officer
Detroit PAL, a non-profit organization positively impacting the lives of children in Detroit since 1969, has announced Fred Hunter as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective today. The announcement was made by Detroit PAL Board President Alan Huddy.
In his new position, Hunter will be responsible for shaping the organization’s future programming, overall direction while cultivating vital community relationships to move the non-profit organization forward. Prior to this new role, Hunter had served as Acting CEO for the past few months as well as Detroit PAL’s Director of Program Administration since 2000, where he had been responsible for overseeing PAL’s programming and the organization’s data and analytics.
“For the past 22 years, I have witnessed the importance of Detroit PAL to the community and the thousands of youth we serve and it’s an honor to now be in the position to lead this essential organization,” said Hunter. “I look forward to working together with our passionate staff, board of directors, partners and supporters to build on the foundation established and create a stronger future by investing in the greatness of our children.”
A Detroit native, Hunter graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School and attended the University of Michigan, where he received a B.A. in Psychology. Most notably, he was a walk-on and captain of the 1992 Michigan Basketball team, which included the ‘Fab Five,’, that made its memorable run to the national title game against Duke.
“It was Fred’s dedication and passion he showed on that special Wolverine team and throughout his career that was one of the many reasons we believed he was the right person to lead Detroit PAL,” said Huddy. “We are confident he will bring the same drive and commitment to this organization for many years to come.”
