When the Detroit Pistons sent Andre Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers before the trade deadline, the franchise’s direction was evident. That direction wasn’t just to provide salary-cap relief, but to also develop their younger players.
Today, they made yet another move to ensure the process continues.
Per reports from ESPN, the Detroit Pistons have bought out point guard Reggie Jackson’s contract. Furthermore, reports state that he intends to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers once he clears waivers. In six seasons with the Pistons, Jackson’s averaged 16.2 points and 5.6 assists per game. Jackson’s career in Detroit has been plagued by injuries. In the 2016-2017 season, he only played 52 games, while playing only 45 games in the following 2017-2018 season. This season currently, he was out with a back injury two games into the season, causing him to miss 42 games.
Jackson returned to action for the Pistons on January 22nd in a 127-106 victory over the Sacramento Kings, scoring 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists in 20 minutes of action. With Jackson’s buyout, fans can expect to see an increase in minutes for Derrick Rose, Brandon Knight, and Jordan Bone moving forward.
In 14 games this season as a Piston, Jackson averaged 14.9 points and 5.1 assists per game.
