Detroit Pistons and forward Markieff Morris agree to a buyout, per report

In yet another move to reshape their roster for the future, the Detroit Pistons have bought out yet another contract.

Per a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pistons and forward Markieff Morris have agreed to a buyout. Morris signed a two-year, $7.4 million contract this past free agency with Detroit on July 6th, 2019. Much like most of his former teammates, injuries took a toll on Morris this season. In 44 games with Detroit, he averaged 11 points in 22.5 minutes per game, while shooting nearly 39.7% from 3-point range, which is a career-best.

While the organization has previously stated that they’re not “tanking” for a better position in the upcoming NBA Draft, recent moves suggest otherwise.

With the LA Clippers on the verge of signing former Pistons guard Reggie Jackson, expect the Los Angeles Lakers to give Morris a look. There are reports of them being the early frontrunner to land the former Kansas Jayhawk.

Pistons officially sign Derrick Walton Jr.

The Detroit Pistons also have officially announced the signing of former Michigan guard Derrick Walton Jr. to a 10-Day contract. Walton Jr., who is a native of Detroit last played for the Los Angeles Clippers this season. In 23 games with the Clippers, he averaged 2.2 points and 1 assist per game. Before his NBA career, Walton Jr. earned Second (2017) and Third (2016 )All-Big Ten Team honors. Additionally, he was the 2017 Big Ten Tournament MVP.
