The Detroit Police Department (DPD) is still reeling from the death of Cpl. Darryl Cross, a 23-year veteran, who died the night of Thursday, July 9, Fox 2 reported.

The cause of death was not reported (at the time of this published article). The DPD News’ Twitter page, however, tweeted on Thursday night about the death of Cross. A public information officer told the news station that Cross died off-duty.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Corporal Cross. His bright smile, grace, and commitment to serve and protect this community will never be forgotten,” the post read. “We express our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Cpl. Cross on their loss.”

Cross, according to his Linkedin page, not only joined the DPD over two decades ago in the late nineties, but he spoke three languages including Spanish and French.

He was also skilled in criminal investigations among other things.
