Self-taught fashionista Char Glover hosted a pop-up shop in Royal Oak on November 24 to showcase her brand, RocknRemix. Glover, who was a previous contestant on “Project Runway’s” 13th season, cultivated the style after judges advised her to make clothes she would personally wear. From there, my girl, as Glover describes her, was born.
“I see ‘my girl’ literally walking into rooms,” Glover said. “I don’t know which room, but I think about where ‘my girl’ is going, what would I want to wear if I were her, and that’s how I design. People will be asking ‘my girl’ what do you have on, where did you get that?”
A play on the excitement, energy, and rebellion one feels when thinking of Rock, the RocknRemix clothing line, which launched in 2015, adds a modern twist, or remix, to everyday clothing for the everyday fly girl. The customizable clothing brand features a mix of patterns, polka dots, and pops of color to help casually slay on every occasion.
“We’re doing something different at RockNRemix,” Glover said. “My girls have the option to have extra-long pants so they can wear six-inch heels and still have that drag on the floor. It’s a personable experience because we actually connect with our customers online to customize and provide what they need.”
The pop-up shop was no different. When purchasing the well-known, “Felis Bellz” pants, Glover personally measured her clients and created a custom order that she would ship to them at a later date. This, as Glover put it, ensures that the pieces they purchase are exactly what they need.
The pop-up shop was the first of many for Glover, but the most important.
“There is something about Detroit that gives me a little edge,” Glover said. “Our strength is our greatest asset. I’m proud to be from Detroit. I love Detroit. I rep Detroit. Moving forward, we have a lot of plans to come back and pour into Detroit.”
