Detroit NAACP hosts Back to School Rally

QPIMG_9956Hundreds of kids gathered for a day of fun and freebies at this year’s NAACP Back to School/Stay in School rally.
The NAACP partnered up with Detroit Public Schools, General Motors, DTE Foundation and Michigan Black Bar Owners Association to make the event happen.
Free food, music and school supplies were all available for the kids.
The Back to School Stay in School Family Day program was created in response to the alarming high school dropout rates. The program’s goals are to increase the number of skilled and literate African American youth graduating from high school by providing them with mentoring, tutoring, remedial assistance and incentives for maintaining regular attendance.
At the annual event, the Detroit Branch NAACP partners with Delores Bennett to host the annual family fun day at the Delores Bennett Park in the heart of the north-end community. This event attracts thousands of participants each year.
