Detroit City Mayor Mike Duggan appoints Shawn Blanchard as The Director of Youth Services
Job Creation and youth development said to be the focus
Shawn Blanchard, motivational speaker and author, has been appointed to be the Director of Youth Services for the city of Detroit. Shawn has the primary responsibility of maximizing the benefits of City Services to young people in the city and to assist city leaders, including the Mayor, in assuring a quality of life that supports the healthy growth, development, and self-empowerment of our young citizens. The ultimate goal is to improve the likelihood of the youth growing up to be healthy and productive citizens who contribute to the well-being of their community. Shawn’s first two objectives will be to create 5,000 jobs for Detroit High School students in the summer of 2015, and to increase recreation in Elementary Schools.
Raised in Detroit, Shawn Blanchard once viewed his circle of friends and family as the most influential cast of actors in his life, until it was all shattered by jail and death, he now serves as a positive role model for young and old alike working on projects in the community, spearheading an exercise movement and serving as an educator at the University of Michigan.
Shawn firmly believes that we all have it in us to become successful positive forces in our own lives as well as others. You can read Shawn’s story in his first book coming out in 2015 titled, “Superman Don’t Fly.”
