The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) adult care hospitals, including DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, DMC Harper University/Hutzel Women’s Hospital, DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital and DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital received the top grade in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2014 Safety Score, representing the DMC’s continued commitment to delivering safe, high-quality healthcare services to the Metropolitan Detroit community.
The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score is a rating system designed to give consumers information they can use to make healthcare decisions for themselves or a loved one. This is the seventh time DMC hospitals have been honored with top grades.
“Every day, our team of more than 13,000 colleagues is focused on improving outcomes and enhancing the safety of the care we deliver,” said DMC CEO Joe Mullany. “We are proud to receive “A” grades in safety again from The Leapfrog Group, as we believe it reflects the hard work of our team to position our hospitals as a leading, trusted providers of care for the patients we are privileged to serve.”
“Leapfrog’s continued recognition of DMC’s best patient safety practices demonstrates our focus and adoption of key processes across all our DMC facilities,” said DMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Suzanne White. “We are committed to being a high reliability organization and this is an acknowledgement of our aspiration to deliver patient care with zero harm.”
Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in fall 2014, with about 31 percent receiving an “A” grade. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, with a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades available online.
