Two-time Super Bowl champ Trey Flowers makes his Detroit Lions debut this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. That wasn’t the case his foundation, Flowers of the Future. They decided to take a different field a little early.

Flowers and his foundation held a special “Back to School Community Day” this past Saturday on Detroit’s westside. The event was in partnership with the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC). They treated children and parents to an array of activities at the FREC offices. Highlights of the event featured free haircuts, food, live entertainment, and talent show. 200+ children walked away with backpacks filled with school supplies as part of the special giveaway.

Hitting The Ground Running

This marked Flowers’ second community service initiative in as little as two weeks. Donning his Honolulu blue jersey, Flowers enthusiastically spoke about the event. “It’s an honor to be out here [as] this is one of my first events in Detroit”, said Flowers.

“I’m a newcomer here. They [are] treating me well and teaching me the ropes.” The “they” Flowers referenced was the Detroit community in attendance. Smiles, jokes, and questions greeted the newly signed Lion at his arrival. And he seemingly is finding his way, yelling “What Up Doe!” to Detroiters as he signed autographs and posed for pictures.

The Detroit Lions, Meijer, Teen Hype, VIP Mentoring, and 2x Focus also participated in powering the special giveback.

Flowers signed a five-year, $90 million deal with the Lions this past offseason. The signing reunited him with his former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, who is now the Lions head coach.
