The Detroit Lank Bank Authority wants to hear from Detroit residents. On January 7, DLBA will hold its first meeting of the year at Patton Rec Center. From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, residents can ask any question that they have regarding DLBA, the process to purchase a vacant home, and more. The meetings will be held every first Tuesday of the month.
Last month, the public authority received criticism for the rate of removing blight from local neighborhoods. Saskia Thompson, executive director of the Land Bank, is continuously altering her approach toward solving the blight issue and providing homes for interested buyers. “It is certainly true that we are moving into neighborhoods that have not seen as much market interest,” she said. “So, I think we’re having to be a little more strategic in the way we do that. It challenges us to be more community based in our approach.”
The Detroit Land Bank Authority’s focuses on taking blighted properties and rehabbing them for residential usage. There is a multitude of sales programs available to make homeownership and land purchases accessible to Detroiters. Additionally, they have a Compliance program, necessitating renovation, and occupancy to enhance neighborhoods and tackle real estate concerns.
