On November 5th from 5-9pm, three local artists will use their talent to share their story. Curated by skillful artist Jonathan Harris, the exhibit entitled “Triptych” is set to send the mind of its viewers on a “journey of exploration and creativity”. Held at Irwin Gallery, gallery Director Omo Misha states “Triptych shines a light on three rising stars on the Detroit arts scene… It is part of our mission and pride to offer emerging artists a space to develop and share their ideas.”

Jonathan, a featured artist of Detroit Institute of Arts special programming and former student of Oakland University says that the ideation of the exhibition is for each artist to reach maximum engagement. A masterful artist himself, Jon uses acrylics, oil, and charcoal to blend the African American condition and experience leaving the audience to paint the canvas of their mind with emotion. Equally imaginative and aesthetically stunning, his pieces are poetic in representation. His art has been featured at the Canvas Pontiac Showcase, the Bonded Exhibit featured in Beacon Park, amongst others.

Bright and budding Crystal Starks-Webb embraced her artistry during her 15-year tenure as a Stay-at-Home mom, often using her four children as her muse. As a self-taught Portrait artist, she expresses her creativity through paint with decorative homages of fantasy and mythology. Combined with her nods to afro-centric culture, Crystal’s work overflows with appreciation to the beauty, uniqueness, and regality of Black people. According to her website crystalstarkswebb.com “…her beautiful yet strong characters are able to find a sense of empowerment from within in an otherwise world where they are perceived in a different light.”

Thought-provoking and controversial new artist Terrell Anglin adds a spark to the exhibition through pyrography: the art of wood burning. Naturally gifted since the 1st grade, Terrell continued his artistic pursuits through various student exhibitions at the Detroit Institute of Arts and through his education at Kendall Art and Design school for Fine Arts. His current niche as a pyrography artist has already garnered rave reviews from his striking images collectively inspired by Black history and heritage. Boldly, his art encourages his audience to immerse in their imagination and gather the story behind each piece. This is his highly anticipated debut exhibition, where he will unveil a complete body of his work.
