Detroit Intern Experience Provides Virtual Internships With Prominent CEOs

The COVID-19 pandemic has thwarted many professional opportunities, among those displaced, are college students, who were on track for internships to propel them into their career. Kerry Doman, Founder of the Detroit Intern Experience, has teamed up with several high-profile executives and CEO’s to provide an online intern experience to compensate for the possible missed opportunity. Doman expressed, “During these formidable years in life and development, going dark was not the solution, these young adults still needed professional experiences.” “The business world has changed, possibly forever, but the need for talent remains urgent. We can’t miss a beat.”

The “After 5 Detroit Intern Experience” was initially founded in 2011 to answer the needs for fun and exciting experiences for interns in the city of Detroit, derived from Kerry’s need for the same interaction when she was a budding professional in the city. They have now hosted over 20,000 interns in annual programming since. She explained that she and her team quickly pivoted to putting together the Virtual event, which will include daily programs and workshops led by titans of industry.

Workshops include:

  • How to Interview for Success in a Recession: Mike Malloy, Chief People Officer, Quicken Loans
  • How to Build Leading Brands: Musa Tariq, Forbes’ 7th Most Influential CMO in the World
  • Women in Leadership: Angie Kelly, the first female Managing Partner for Ernst & Young’s Detroit Office
  • Lessons in Effective Leadership from the Bench to Boardroom: Mat Ishbia, member of 2000 MSU Basketball National Championship team, now CEO of United Shore, the #1 wholesale mortgage lender in the nation

In addition to the workshops, the registered Interns will also tour the Detroit City Distillery and participate in Whiskey tasting, an exciting addition providing social interaction. The Detroit Intern Program began Tuesday, June 16th, and will run until the end of July. Registration is free and open to all. Register at https://www.virtualinternexperience.com/
