Detroit Hosts Taxpayer Resource Fair to Assist Homeowners in Avoiding Foreclosure

The Detroit Taxpayer Service Center, in a concerted effort to aid homeowners and mitigate foreclosure risks, is hosting a resource fair today from 3-6 p.m. at the Roberto Clemente Recreation Center located at 2631 Bagley Street in southwest Detroit. The event, organized in collaboration with a range of city and county agencies, aims to arm residents with essential information and resources to maintain home ownership.

At the fair, attendees will have access to a wealth of information from the City of Detroit Treasury, Wayne County Treasurer’s Office, the Office of the Assessors/Board of Review, Detroit Water & Sewerage Department, and other key departments. Each agency will provide insights into property taxes, programs available for current and delinquent taxes, and other homeowner-related assistance programs.

Among the highlighted resources are the Plan Ahead Program, the Homeowners Property Tax Exemption (HOPE) program, and Primary Residence Exemptions (PREs). In addition to property tax assistance, information will be provided on home improvement loans, utility assistance programs, and various methods for conveniently paying taxes.

Further enhancing the event, the Michigan Secretary of State, Detroit Land Bank Authority, Housing and Revitalization Department, Detroit Health Department, Detroit Department of Transportation, and the Detroit Ombudsman Office will participate to address a wide array of questions and concerns from the community.

Nikhil Patel, City of Detroit Chief Deputy CFO and Treasurer, emphasized the fair’s importance, stating, “We know how important homeownership is for Detroiters and this Taxpayer Resource Fair is a way to share and connect residents to vital programs and other resources that will help in maintaining homeownership.”

The fair is also supported by additional entities such as the Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity (CRIO) Department, underscoring a comprehensive approach to providing Detroit residents with the necessary tools to succeed as homeowners. This initiative reflects the city’s dedication to community education and proactive financial management, helping to strengthen the fabric of community support across Detroit.
