As the economic renaissance of Detroit continues, the city once again underlines its commitment to its residents through proactive, resourceful, and innovative initiatives. The Detroit Taxpayer Service Center (DTSC) is back with its second Taxpayer Resource Fair of the year, aiming to empower Detroiters with crucial knowledge and resources to help them avoid the distress of foreclosure.
On Friday, July 21, from 12:00 to 3PM, Heilman Recreation Center on 19601 Brock Ave. will be bustling with Detroiters seeking to secure their homes and financial futures. Attendees will have the opportunity to access information about both current and delinquent property taxes, and get a direct connection to valuable taxpayer resources and programs.
These include the City’s Plan Ahead Program and the HOPE (Homeowners Property Tax Exemption) Program. Representatives from several Detroit departments, including the Office of the Assessor, Building Safety Engineering and Environment Dept., COD-Clearances Dept., Water and Sewage Dept, and Detroit Police Dept., will join Wayne County Treasurer’s Office, DivDat, and SER-Metro Detroit to assist residents and answer their questions.
In addition, the Michigan Secretary of State mobile office unit will also be part of the fair, expanding the range of services available.
Since the introduction of these homeowner support programs in 2015, Detroit has witnessed a dramatic reduction of nearly 95% in the number of owner-occupied homes lost each year to County tax foreclosure. But Detroit isn’t stopping there. The aim is to shrink those numbers even further, ensuring the city’s resurgence reaches every Detroit home.
For those wrestling with the summer property tax due on August 31 or winter property tax due on January 15, this event could be a lifeline. Bring your address or parcel number and get the help you need.
Furthermore, the DTSC is launching its new interactive website, www.detroitmi.gov/DTSC, designed to expedite resolution of queries about property taxes and other taxpayer matters. Using an efficient ticket numbering system, taxpayers can submit a question and expect a response within 48 business hours.
Detroit’s economic resurgence is all about ensuring that the city’s residents, the heart and soul of Detroit, continue to flourish in their beloved city. The Taxpayer Resource Fair and the launch of the new DTSC website are two more steps in that direction. Stay tuned, Detroit, because the city is rooting for you!
