Ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to be a scorcher in Detroitthis weekend, and while Michiganders take a certain pride in the fickleness of the local weather, it’s unlikely to magically turn into a cool day. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning, with highs ranging from 98 to 103 degrees in southeastern Michigan.
The high temperatures can lead to heat stroke and heat exhaustion, and WDIV reports three deaths this week have been linked to the high temperatures. The NWS recommends staying out of the sun, wearing light, loose-fitting clothing, drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous activity.
While the best way to keep cool is to lounge in front of an air conditioner set for 66 degrees as someone continuously mists you with ice water, that’s not an available option to those of us who aren’t independently wealthy. Plus, storms earlier in the week have left many of us without power.
Below, check out some of our Detroit-flavored suggestions for beating the heat. How are you staying cool?
