Detroit councilman James Tate and District 1 Detroit released the District 1 2019 Year-End Booklet Review for Detroit residents. For the past seven years, Tate and his team have held a D1 potluck for residents in which they can receive a booklet. The year-end booklet chronicles Tate’s community and charitable efforts in the City of Detroit. The potluck is designed for residents to have fellowship and learn about new ways to improve District 1.
The booklet opens with Tate surrounded by members of the community and a letter addressing District 1 residents. “2019 has proven itself to be the year to get up, get out, and get involved,” Tate said. “With the help of our dedicated D1 neighbors, my team and I continued to cultivate even stronger community ties within District 1.”
Tate then discussed numerous projects that are underway in District 1. “There is a lot of optimistic transition currently taking place within neighborhoods throughout D1, with the most pronounced undertaking being the Grand River Streetscape Project. This two-year, $9 million project, which is funded by the State of Michigan and the City of Detroit promises to add much needed infrastructural improvements with the goal of increasing safety along Grand River Avenue. He ended the letter by thanking the greater community for their work toward improving the neighborhoods and adjacent areas in D1.
District 1 is a community in Detroit that includes neighborhoods such as Rosedale Park, Grandmont Community, Brightmoor, and Old Redford. Grand River Avenue is the main road in D1 which runs from the Eastside to the Westside of Detroit.
James Tate has served at the Detroit City Council since 2009. Before this role, he was the Second Deputy Chief for the Detroit Police.
