Thursday, Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones announced she tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement Jones says,

“I am not experiencing any of the horrific symptoms…I will continue working remotely from home.”

Jones joins the 2,860 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by the Detroit Health Department Thursday.  The death total now stands at 97.

Jones says the virus is not to be taken lightly.

“I advise everyone to take the coronavirus seriously, to frequently wash their hands, to participate in social distancing, to be safe and take care of themselves and their families.”

The Michigan Chronicle previously reported another public official, Detroit Police Chief James Craig, tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

Additionally, the Michigan Chronicle reported COVID-19 is suspected of claiming the life of Michigan State Representative Isaac Robinson.
