DETROIT – Second Ebenezer Church and its partners have concluded its water drive and has prepared water to be sent to Jackson, Mississippi. During the water drive, Second Ebenezer and partners collected 45 pallets of bottled water that will be sent to Jackson. Upon arrival, the bottled water – enough to fill three semi-trucks – will be received by the United Way Jackson, Jackson State University, and St. Luther Baptist Church.
“The water crisis in Jackson Mississippi is an ongoing tragedy that isn’t over,” said Bishop Edgar Vann, senior pastor of Second Ebenezer Church. “There is a great need to provide safe drinking water as challenges persist with long term infrastructure damage. Detroiters have always had hearts open to help when people are in crisis.”
Earlier this month Second Ebenezer Church launched a water collection drive to support the residents of Jackson, Mississippi who are without clean water. Detroiters have dropped off cases of water over the course of several days. The bottled water collection drive is a partnership involving Second Ebenezer Church, Meijer, the United Way for Southeastern Michigan and
Living Waters Church on the campaign.
“Our hearts go out to the families devastated by the water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi. As an agency working so closely with families in need here in our own community, we are glad to be able to offer help to those families in this time of need,” said Tonya Adair, Chief People, Equity and Inclusion Officer, United Way for Southeastern Michigan. “There are so many people across the country that are hearing about what is going on and looking for ways to help. We are proud to join Bishop Edgar Vann, the Second Ebenezer family in support and relief efforts on the ground there in Jackson.”
Bishop Vann is working with members of the Jackson, Mississippi faith-based community and Jackson State University to get water in the hands of residents once it arrives in town.
