Detroit Celebrates Kwanzaa

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History will present its annual Kwanzaa Celebration on three separate evenings! You are invited to celebrate with friends and family and pay tribute to our rich cultural heritage.
A candle lighting ceremony begins at 6 pm, followed by each evening’s festivities:
Thursday 12/26 (Umoja – Unity): Honor the wisdom of our Ancestors as a guide for our lives today with a storytelling presentation of “Wise Tales From the Village” by members of the Detroit Association of Black Storytellers and musical performances. Presented in partnership with Shrine of the Black Madonna Cultural Center and Bookstore.
Saturday 12/28 (Ujima – Collective Work & Responsibility): The Nsoroma Institute presents the celebration of the third evening of Kwanzaa with libations, performances by Thiosane Performing Arts Company, Nsoroma alumni recognition, and a Kwanzaa marketplace. Sunday 12/29 (Ujamaa – Cooperative Economics): Khary WAE Frazier leads the celebration for the fourth evening of Kwanzaa with musical performances, storytelling, and more!
