Detroit Celebrates Juneteenth With Freedom Rally

Detroit’s weeklong Juneteenth celebration will end on Friday, June 19 with a Freedom Rally at Spirit Plaza. The rally will be the public’s first opportunity to see the “POWER TO THE PEOPLE”  street mural in person along with the artist and students that created it.

The rally will open with a performance of the black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by Victoria Cooksey of the Detroit Youth Choir and include a libation ceremony, African dancers, drummers and performances by spoken word artists.

There will be free refreshments compliments of Canna Boys.

The NAACP will be on-hand to register voters  and representatives from the 2020 Census will be available to help people complete their Census forms. Detroit at Work’s mobile career center known as Workforce One will be available to share information on open jobs and upcoming trainings.

Several local businesses and organizations came together to ensure CRIO and the ACE offices received the support necessary for the weeklong celebration, street mural and rally including:

Bedrock, the Knight Foundation, Eastern Market Corp., Motor City Paint, Murals in the Market, General Motors, The Knight Foundation, Mint Artist Guild, University Prep and Hubert Massey.

WHEN: Friday, June 19, 2020 @ 10:00 AM.
