Detroit’s cinematic spotlight is set to shine brighter than ever as Trinity Films Entertainment Group, in partnership with The Ford Foundation, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, The Love Building, and The Marlene Boll Theater, announces the 6th Annual Detroit Black Film Festival. The celebration of Black artistry in film runs Sept. 25-28, 2025, bringing 72 films from 30 countries to the Motor City.
In just six years, the DBFF has solidified its place as Michigan’s premier film festival, screening more than 500 films created by Black filmmakers. This year promises an electrifying mix of narratives, from gripping documentaries to lush, character-driven dramas that center and honor Black experiences on screen. Expect breathtaking visuals, stirring performances, and the kind of conversations that linger long after the credits roll.
The festivities don’t stop at the theater. On Sept. 27, the 14th edition of the Taste of Black Spirits Collective Behavior Tour will take over the Doubletree Hotel Crystal Ballroom, pairing the festival’s cinematic celebration with an evening of “Cinema, Culture & Cocktails.” Presented by Black Spirits Legacy, Buddha Foods, Loraines BBQ Sauce and Loyalty Wines, the event will feature more than 100 spirit brands, including Ronald Isley Liquid Gold, Loyalty Wines by J. Prince, Sable Bourbon by Morris Chestnut and Taye Diggs, and Zawadi Vodka. Mixologists will serve handcrafted cocktails to guests 21 and over from 6 to 11 p.m.
With bold storytelling and bold spirits, DBFF 2025 is poised to be a vibrant toast to Black creativity.
