Detroit Animal Care at Capacity, Waiving all Fees for Thanksgiving

Turkey Tom is a playful year-old male available for foster/adoption. He is affectionate, loves long walks and responds to treats.

The Detroit Animal Care Shelter continues to make it a priority to place as many animals for adoption, foster, and transfer as possible. Detroit Animal Care currently is over capacity and needs the community’s help in either adopting or fostering an animal.

Now is the time for those who are interested in finding their “Furever Friend” to take advantage of fee waivers throughout the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday week.

Detroit Animal Care is open all week, including Thanksgiving Day.

Hours are as follows:

Open daily from 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM November 24

Noon – 2 p.m. November 25

Adoptions take place at the Detroit Animal Care Shelter located at 7401 Chrysler Drive in Detroit.

Adoption fees are waived all week, and all dogs and cats will be fully vaccinated, sterilized and microchipped.

“We want anyone who is considering getting a pet for the holidays to come and check out our many deserving dogs who are in need of homes,” said Detroit Animal Care Director Mark Kumpf. “Like shelters across the state, we are over capacity. We are asking everyone to please consider adopting or even fostering one of our dogs.”
