Detroit Alphas Set to Host ‘Go to High School, Go to College’ Fair

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Lambda Chapter is proud to announce its annual Go To High School, Go To College Fair, taking place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Henry Ford Health Hospital, located at 2799 W Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI 48202. 

This free community event is designed to expose students to the many options available after high school, including how to prepare for college and how to pay for it. In addition, scholarships will be awarded to eligible students to support their educational journeys. The event will feature engaging breakout sessions focused on scholarships, selecting the right college, and essential life skills for surviving and thriving in college. 

In addition to the breakout sessions, attendees will hear from Gwen Thomas, a renowned marketing and public relations professional and creator of the Black Friday Scholarship Bootcamp, who will present on “Paying for School: Financial Aid and Scholarships.” Over the past 30 years, her program has helped more than 150 students annually secure funding for their education. 

Participants will also have the opportunity to connect with representatives from more than 15 colleges and programs, including the U.S. Army, Oakland University, Eastern Michigan University, the University of Michigan, and others. 

“This annual college fair is an opportunity for us to engage students and help them start thinking about their plans after high school., said Sterling Littlejohn, chair, Go To High School, Go To College. “We know not everyone will go to college so we incorporate military, trade school, and workforce readiness programming as well.”

  • 8:30 a.m. – Breakfast available 
  • 9:00 a.m. – Keynote Presentation: Financing Your College Education presentation by Gwen Thomas 
  • 9:20 a.m. – College readiness breakout sessions 
  • 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – College fair booths open 
  • 12:00 p.m. – Lunch available

About the Gamma Lambda Chapter 

The Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on March 22, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan, by thirteen men who were influential leaders in the community. Along with early initiates, they led organizations dedicated to uplifting African Americans throughout Detroit. Gamma Lambda is the third-oldest alumni chapter in the fraternity and one of the largest, with over 300 active members. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has supported students nationwide through the Go To High School, Go To College Program since 1922.
