A day after Mike Bloomberg announced his exit from the presidential race, Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren is also leaving the campaign trail. Her abrupt departure comes after Tuesday’s primary presidential elections. There hasn’t been much detail as to why she’s leaving the race, but her recently, her campaign manager Roger Lau spoke about the results of Tuesday’s primary and future plans for Warren.
“We fell well short of our viability goals and projections, and we are disappointed in the results,” said Lau. “We’re still waiting for more results to come in to get a better sense of the final delegate math. And we also all know the race has been extremely volatile in recent weeks and days with frontrunners changing at a pretty rapid pace. All of us have worked for Elizabeth long enough to know that she isn’t a lifetime politician and doesn’t think like one. She’s going to take time right now to think through the right way to continue this fight. There’s a lot at stake for this country and the millions of people who are falling further and further behind. This decision is in her hands, and it’s important that she has the time and space to consider what comes next.”
On Tuesday, March 3, Warren held a campaign rally in the Eastern Market of Detroit. She spoke to hundreds of her supporters, hopeful and assertive of her future as the first female President of the United States. “I believe in the America that we can build together,” said Warren. “If you think this America is possible and worth fighting for, then I’m asking you to get in this fight.”
Warren was a frontrunner in the race to become the Democratic nominee, but her numbers fluctuated as the weeks went by. There’s been no official word on which candidate she’s backing as of yet.
