Some school districts closed their doors today due to recent online threats that were posted on social media, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
Both districts and police departments throughout Southeast Michigan investigated the posts that were made after the Tuesday shooting at Oxford High School that left four people dead.
From threats found on a bathroom wall at Sterling Heights Heritage Junior High School to other large school districts canceling classes (Rochester, Troy, Clarkston, and Walled Lake) the school districts are being proactive to ensure the safety of local youth.
FOX 2 Detroit reported that Rochester schools made a statement that there wasn’t a credible threat, but that safety was at the top of mind.
“There have been rumors circulating on social media indicating that other high schools may be at risk of experiencing a tragedy similar to the one that occurred recently at Oxford High School. At Rochester Community Schools, we take all threats very seriously,” the statement read.
FOX 2 Detroit also reported that on Wednesday, a student was found with a weapon at the Southfield Regional Academic Campus. No injuries occurred as a 12th grader was taken into custody by Southfield police.
