Proposed effective date is January 23, 2016
The Detroit Department of Transportation held three public hearings December 9 – 10, 2015 to gather public comments on proposed changes to its fixed-route service.
Many of the service changes being proposed are in direct response to public comments received during the public comment period following our July 2015 Public Hearings, as well as input sought from two Community Input Workshops held in November. The comments helped us to prioritize some of our proposed changes, such as, adding “Night-Owl” or 24 hour service on our three busiest routes: Woodward, Gratiot and Grand River Avenue.
Other changes involve “righting” the travel times on our route schedules so they are reliable, realistic and achievable. For instance, the 8 Mile Rd Route will be adjusted to accommodate the actual time to complete the route. Previously, this route was unable to fulfill the time allotted on the schedule. Therefore, we are recommending minor adjustments to many routes to increase efficiencies, so customers can count on scheduled service and our drivers can maintain service times.
These service adjustments would take effect as early as Saturday, January 23, 2016. At the hearing, the public will receive an overall status update from DDOT Director, Dan Dirks, hear the proposed service changes and have the opportunity to give written and/or oral feedback. DDOT will host a follow up meeting in Mid-January to announce its final decision on its fixed route service adjustments.
DDOT encourages the public to attend any of the three scheduled public hearings. Two hearings are scheduled in the evening and one hearing is scheduled during the morning. Hearings are as follows:
