It is true not all men can dunk but Darryl “Chocolate Thunder” Dawkins defied that notion.
The man who will likely be most remembered for his glass board shattering dunk in the year of 1967, played 14 season in the NBA. He was apart of teams located Philadelphia, New Jersey, Utah and the Detroit throughout his career.
Former and current players reacted on social media after news broke.
“Rest in peace OG. You were one of my favorite players of all time. You were very inspirational to a lot of young players. Thank u for the long talks and great memories. I can’t believe that you’re gone. But you are in a better place,” said Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard on Instagram. “You were the originator of the dunk. The names you came up with were creative and on point. Prayers go up for the Dawkins family. Rest easy OG. #chocolate thunder.”

After his playing days were over in the NBA, Dawkins spent time as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters. He was notoriously known for his highflying dunks and he even gave name to some of them, “Look Out Below” and “Yo Momma”.
The cause of death has yet to be revealed.
