Da Brat has a baby on the way!

The rapper recently revealed that she’s expecting her first child with her wife, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart, and showed off her baby bump in photos obtained exclusively by People.

“It’s been quite a journey,” Da Brat told People, noting that at 48 “there’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.”

Da Brat’s journey to motherhood began roughly around the time she and Harris-Dupart tied the knot in February 2022. “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show” co-host said she didn’t envision having kids until she met her wife.

“I never thought I was going to have kids,” she said. “I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.”

“I started looking at life so differently,” Da Brat recalled of when she fell in love with Harris-Dupart. “I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”

The couple decided that Da Brat would carry the child as Harris-Dupart, already a mother of three, suffered health complications following an egg retrieval procedure. Da Brat too faced health issues, undergoing surgery to remove fibroids and polyps prior to her embryo transfer procedure.

The pair also suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage.

“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted,” Da Brat said. “I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”

However, motherhood was still possible because the couple had “quite a few eggs left.” Now Da Brat is “excited” to be firmly in her second trimester at 18 weeks.

Da Brat and Harris-Dupart chose to make their pregnancy photoshoot “gangster inspired” to reflect the dichotomy of the rapper’s tough hip-hop persona with her bump reveal, per People.

“I think people are going to be shocked,” Da Brat said of her pregnancy news.
