Crusade for America, The Funeral for Democracy

WE MEMORIALZE: I want to invite you to a mock Funeral for Democracy on THIS Monday, May 28, 2012. It begins at 11:00 AM. Michigan has emerged as ground zero for the fight for economic recovery. The current state government has decided that suspending the vote is the key to financial stability. In truth, Democracy has been put to death by public act 4. On Memorial Day we will funeralize democracy in an attempt to dramatize the sad truth that the Snyder administration has single handedly silenced the vote and voice of 50% of the African Americans in Michigan, disenfranchised 75% of the African American elected officials and made the vote in Michigan null and void. Beyond this there has been no plan for economic recovery for Benton Harbor, Flint, Detroit, Highland Park, Hamtramck and other cities in the state. There is no exit plan for emergency managers and no tool kit for elected officials and community stakeholders to guide the development of a coordinated response to the economic and public safety crisis we face. I want to invite you to this historic event where we will mark the silent death of democracy in Michigan.

WE MEET: At 12:30 PM, Immediately following this mock funeral we will host an organizing meeting. The agenda of this meeting will be Save the Vote and Stop the Violence. We seek to organize ourselves against the destruction of democratic institutions and fight to stem the rising tide of violence. We believe that any public policy like public act 4 that destroys democratic institutions also contributes to the growing level of low morale and apathy in our communities. When citizens are disenfranchised they lose the will to fight, to build and to grow. We meet to develop a plan for enlisting regular citizens in the fight for the vote and against violence.
