The Motor City Cruise, in their opening two-game series of the G League season, couldn’t keep pace with a red-hot Sioux Falls Skyforce squad on Saturday night, falling 137–118 at Wayne State Fieldhouse. This loss resulted in a split series, a significant outcome in the early stages of the season.
After earning an impressive win over Sioux Falls on Friday night, the Cruise ran into a Skyforce team that caught fire early and never cooled off. The Skyforce’s strong start set the tone for the game. Sioux Falls shot 48 percent from the field and knocked down 16 three-pointers, including 10 from guard Trevor Keels, who finished with a game-high 32 points.
Despite the loss, the Cruise showed strong individual performances and moments of resilience. Jaden Akins (Michigan State) led Motor City with 27 points, attacking the rim with confidence and providing steady perimeter shooting. Isaac Jones turned in another solid effort in the frontcourt, posting 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Feron Hunt added 20 points and John Ukomadu chipped in 17.
Motor City shot 44 percent from the floor and 81 percent from the free-throw line but struggled to slow the Skyforce’s perimeter attack and fast-break opportunities. Sioux Falls outscored the Cruise 29–14 in transition and poured in 60 points in the paint, building a lead that grew as large as 27 in the second half.
The Cruise trailed 39–28 after the opening quarter but remained competitive until Sioux Falls exploded for a 40-point third quarter that put the game out of reach.
With the series split, the Cruise opens the season at 1–1, showing flashes of strong offensive potential and depth despite Saturday’s defeat. Head Coach Jamelle McMillan’s group will look to bounce back when they return to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Cleveland Charge at Wayne State Fieldhouse.
