Public invited to light a candle in support of Michigan’s homeless youth Vigil kicks off 2nd Annual Sleep Out: Executive Edition in Detroit
Covenant House Michigan invites the public to its 18th Annual Candlelight Vigil Against Youth Homelessness held on Thursday, Nov. 19. Supporters will come together to light a candle of hope, sing, pray and take a stance for the estimated 5,000+ metro Detroit youths who wander the street on any given night in search for a warm bed, a hot meal and someone to care.
The vigil coincides with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and kicks off the second annual Sleep-Out: Executive Edition later that evening when Metro Detroit business leaders will spend the night outside at the CHM campus to raise funds and bring attention to the plight of homeless youth in Detroit and across the nation.
CHM will be accepting socks, wash cloths, towels, full-size toiletries, gift cards and monetary donations at the event. These donations will assist CHM in providing crucial services such as shelter, food, clothing, counseling, transitional living, health services and education/vocational training to homeless, runaway and at-risk youth less than 22 years of age.
