(DETROIT, MI) In an effort to Do ‘The Wright’ Thing, R&B recording artist ZanYe teams-up with Actor Darrin Dewitt Henson (Soul Food, Stomp The Yard) to benefit the meaningful work of preserving the history of African Americans and their experiences at the world’s largest museum dedicated to this work; The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, founded by Dr. Charles H. Wright. ZanYe and Henson hope to do their part to raise funds and increase awareness during the CD Release Concert to Benefit ‘The Wright’ on Sunday, July 27, 2014, 5:00pm located at 315 E Warren Ave, Detroit, MI 48202, (313) 494-5800.
ZanYe’ said, “I was compelled to do something to support those who have dedicated themselves to preserving our experiences and history. I have the heart of a giver and I am filled with joy to be able to gather people together on July 27th to celebrate the history of African Americans, to celebrate and share my new music Conversations and giveback. Having Darrin Henson support my efforts is a huge added value and exciting, too.” Through her unique partnership with Universal Xperience, Henson’s support is made possible.
The inspiration for the benefit came from Judge Craig Strong, a former board member who was instrumental in the establishment of The Wright. Strong says, “Our collective experiences as a people are housed and preserved at The Wright. This work must continue. It’s our history. I’m humbled and excited that my efforts inspire artists like ZanYe’ and Henson to support because it takes all of us doing our part.”
ZanYe’ shared this about her new music, “Conversations, is my sophomore project. The music takes you back to a time when R&B pulled at your heartstrings. The lyrics are compelling and the groove is solid. I candidly discuss the realness of love and how something as simple as a conversation, can make things better.”
Conversations is produced by Sound Thought Recordings and with every preorder, ZanYe’ gives away several digital (mp3) gifts. The lead single Conversation was release as a music video in May, 2014.
ZanYe’ leverages the star power of Henson in support of her philanthropic efforts. Henson said, “As national spokesperson for the M.A. Lee Scholarship Fund in Orangeburg, SC, I strongly believe in ‘Paying It Forward’ and using one’s personal wealth to do so. I am honored to join ZanYe in such a worthy effort. The preservation of our history and telling of our collective stories is vital.
I am looking forward to visiting the remarkable Wright museum, again.”
Henson is known for his role as the character Lem Van Adams on the hit Showtime series “Soul Food.” He is a MTV Music Award Recipient and a two time nominated NAACP Image Award Actor. In 2014, Henson returned to the silver screen in a film by Marc Harris called ‘Black Coffee.’ Henson plays the role of Robert, the central character of the film. The Chicago Suntimes said, “Black Coffee is a mild romantic comedy/drama with an overly positive outlook on (romantic) relationships. It rests easily within the category of faith-based films, where it should find an audience.” Recently Henson was named National Health and Fitness Spokesperson for United Health Care.
