WASHINGTON– U. S. Rep. Brenda L. Lawrence of Michigan’s 14th Congressional District issued the following statement:
“I profoundly disagree with Speaker John Boehner’s decision to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before a Joint Session of Congress without first coordinating with the White House. Speaker Boehner’s actions are not only disrespectful to President Barack Obama but violate established protocols.
I will, however, be attending the Joint Sessions to demonstrate my support not for the process but for the close and longstanding relationship we have with the Israeli people and the many constituents I have that support Israel.”
Brenda L. Lawrence was elected to Congress in November 2014. She served as Southfield mayor between 2002 and 2015. A Senior Whip, Congresswoman Lawrence represents 18 communities throughout Greater Detroit, including portions of Detroit as well as segments of Oakland and Wayne counties.
