Congratulations! Welcome to 2022!

Sis! You did a good job — as we all did. No matter if you just went to work every day, stayed at home and loved on your family, grieved the loss of a loved one, or made major moves — if you’re reading this, you made it to 2022!

Typically, at the beginning of the year, we tend to look forward to the new year with great anticipation that subtly can plant the seeds of pressure to do something more significant in the year ahead. We set goals of being better than how we perceived ourselves the year before — resolutions of being slimmer than last year, saving more money than last year, having more achievements than the previous year all become top of our mind on January 1.

Often, as the year progresses, we see our lofty goals slowly deflate month over month and with it the confidence in ourselves. What initially seemed to be the fresh start we needed now hangs like a storm cloud of defeat over our heads, and we sputter along until the end of the year to do the same thing, with hopes that this year will be the year!

Here’s the thing… RESOLUTIONS don’t work! The definition of resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something.

Because you are your life, and your life is not absolute in any way, how could this ever be accomplished? The reality is you may plan to be financially sound this year and lose your job. You may plan to live forever after with the love of your life when he proposes and never make it to the alter. You may plan to launch your business, and your child has a medical emergency — life is change — and change is inevitable.

However, just as there are unexpected challenges, miracles happen as well. You thought that you would spend the year alone and then meet a new set of friends. You thought that you would stay in your one-bedroom apartment forever but you find yourself in a fantastic home of your own.

Life comes at you, and if you are doing it right — you’re LIVING it fully and embracing every moment. LIVING — that’s the only firm decision that you can make every day when you wake up to LIVE!

In addition to living — you can choose to set intentions.

Intention is defined as a thing intended, an aim, or plan. Intentions allow us to be gentle with ourselves as we grow into a new version of ourselves. Intentions encourage us and understand if we have a bad day and eat a pint of ice cream or drink an entire bottle of wine. Intentions don’t judge us as resolutions do, feeding our brain disappointment within ourselves. Intentions allow us grace and enable us to be human and live.

This new year chooses to invoke a more intentional theme, mindful with a desire not to arrive but to grow!

Here’s to being gentle with yourself, being present, and living fully in the new year!
