Comedian Actor’s Death Puts Spotlight on Using GoFundMe as Life Insurance

Many Americans don’t always have enough to pay for their medical bills or the cost of expensive funerals, so GoFundMe is becoming a more popular option, Black Enterprise reported.

GoFundMe is making its way online through many people in need — even the late actor Anthony’ A.J.’ Johnson’s whose widow used a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $54,000 in donations to help assist in paying for the actor’s funeral expenses.

Lexis Jones Mason, Johnson’s widow, recently began a GoFundMe campaign and she said that she was disappointed after the donations didn’t come in as quickly as she thought.

GoFundMe does not replace life insurance, experts say, adding that people should consider using life insurance as an alternative to paying for funeral and burial costs, according to the article.
