Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams said electors from his state will be subject to felony perjury charges if they change their vote or do not vote.
Monday, elector’s will meet for a formal meeting where Williams will make the electors swear under oath.
Secretary Williams admitted that this is an effort to keep Clinton delegates from not voting for her because he believes it will hinder the election and make it difficult for electors. Electors who will not vote for Clinton, Williams said, will be in violation of a Colorado law that says they must vote in support of the winner of the state’s popular vote.
“If Elector A writes down Bernie Sanders or Ted Cruz or anyone other than Hillary Clinton, they immediately cease to be an elector and they’re replaced. The difference here is you have perjured yourself,” Williams said.
“If you swear the oath and then immediately violate it. I think there’s a basis for a more severe criminal penalty.”
Williams said electors who he deems to be violation of the oath face up to 6-years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
