CODE313 wants to provide kids with a pathway to technology through their 2020 Summer Stem Academy. The summer camp starts on July 13 and will take place on a weekly basis until August 14. This camp is for students in grades 4-9 and will be held at CODE313 Detroit Headquarters. Breakfast, lunch, snacks are provided along with a T-shirt and a backpack.

The camp is split into different weeks, depending on a child’s grade.

  • Grades 6 & 7: July 27-31, 2020 August 3-7, 2020
  • Grades 8 & 9: August 10-14, 2020

The camp is $450 per designated week. Payment plans are available along with scholarships for students who meet the criteria for free-reduced lunch. The cam will feature STEM activities such as:

  • Robotics
  • Drones
  • Web Design
  • Coding

STEM and IT are becoming a staple in African American classrooms around the country. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, young children’s minds are very receptive to math and logic and that early mathematics skills are the strongest predictor of future academic achievement. Also, STEM jobs are projected to be increasingly in demand, with this sector growing by 17 percent compared to 9.8 percent for all other occupations.
