Collection of yard waste for Detroit residents will be extended to Friday, Dec. 12. Residents can put leaves in biodegradable paper bags only at the curb on their regularly scheduled collection day that falls between now and Dec. 12.
If residents miss their collection day during this period, yard waste can be taken to any of the five drop-off locations listed below.
Residents are reminded that yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.
In addition, the Department of Public Works has switched to its fall/winter hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its four drop-off locations. A fifth location, J. Fons Transfer Station at 6451 E. McNichols, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents with proper identification may use the drop-off locations to discard yard waste, bulk items and recyclable items.
These hours are in effect from now through the end of March 2015 for the drop-off sites:

The city will also collect Christmas trees from Jan. 2 through Jan. 16. Residents should leave the trees at the curb for collection.
Collection of yard waste will resume in mid-April 2015.
