Cinema & Cuisine is bringing an innovative experience that unites the power of independent film with the artistry of gourmet dining on February 22, 2025, in Hamtramck, MI. Cinema & Cuisine will treat guests to an evening of films paired with expert courses designed to complement each narrative.

 

Curated by NEO Cinema, Chef Me Please, Sweet Obsessions Productions, and Caperture Pix, the event will feature three compelling independent films and courses that highlight storytelling’s depth, boldness, and simplicity. Chef Ezra of Chef Me Please and Chef Tolb of Tolb’s Kitchen crafted each dish to reflect the essence of independent filmmaking and create an immersive experience where cinema and Cuisine intertwine.

 

For Chef Ezra Niles, the event was an opportunity to merge two artistic mediums that share a common soul. “Independent film and culinary arts are both about telling stories through experience. When offered the chance to pair my food with these powerful films, I knew it was a perfect match.” His carefully curated dishes are designed to mirror the layers within the films. “Each dish was crafted to reflect the layers in independent filmmaking. The steak bites represent boldness, the mushrooms show complexity, and the caprese brings simplicity with depth—just like the films we’re featuring.”

 

For filmmaker Stefon McBride of Caperture Pix, the event is about deepening audience engagement. “I saw an opportunity to create an immersive experience where cuisine and cinema could complement each other in telling powerful stories.” McBride emphasizes how food enhances the emotional journey of a film, allowing guests to experience storytelling in a way that extends beyond the screen. “Each dish was selected to mirror elements of independent filmmaking—bold choices, subtle complexity, and elegant simplicity. The wine pairings further enhance these connections.”

 

Bringing his perspective as a director, Rosco Davis highlights the importance of storytelling beyond budgets and production size. “What I want people to take away from the films is that you don’t need a big budget to tell a great story. All you need is an idea, determination, and the will to adapt to any given situation.” He notes that the films featured at the event were created on micro-budgets or were self-funded, proving that great cinema is driven by creativity, dedication, and attention to detail that resonates with audiences. “On each film, we held each other accountable so that we ensured we created something that the audience could truly enjoy. Not many artists can say, ‘Hey, I’m showing two award-winning films in one night.’

 

The night will feature three films: “Closure,” a raw and emotional exploration of rekindled love; “The Walk,” an experimental piece diving into betrayal and heartbreak; and “Date Night,” a beautifully shot romance capturing fleeting yet meaningful encounters. Each film will be elevated by a carefully curated dish and wine pairing, heightening the emotional and sensory connection for attendees.

 

More than just a night at the movies, Cinema & Cuisine is about creating an experience that lingers long after the credits roll. McBride shares, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Inspired by Maya Angelou’s words, this event aims to make guests feel something profound, whether through the striking imagery of the films or the indulgent flavors of the Cuisine.
