Chris Rock may have a top five list of DJs, but don’t expect Power 105/The Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy to make the cut.
The funnyman detailed his beef with the turntablist during an appearance on The Breakfast Club while promoting his new film “Top Five.” (BTW, Envy thought it best that he should pass on participating in the interview with Rock.) Chatting with Angela Yee and Charlamagne tha God, Rock mentioned the beef stemmed from a recreational basketball game involving Envy’s daughter’s team against Rock’s daughter’s team.
The kicker is that Envy coaches his daughter’s team. Rock mentioned that Envy’s team had a commanding lead over his daughter’s team by at least 40 points. He also singled out one player on the team whom he dubbed as “Shaq.”
As the story went on, Rock became upset with Envy because Envy didn’t sit out his best players. As a result, the score kept going up. Although Envy approached Rock for a picture with his kids, Rock turned him down, saying, “Your coach is an asshole!”
In addition to the Envy beef, Rock touched on why Hollywood is a white industry, his thoughts on policy brutality and why he’s never made a good movie, in addition to revealing that “Top Five” will feature “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” star Karlie Redd. To hear him tell, he didn’t know who the reality TV star was when he gave her the part.
“Karlie Redd is in the movie in the funniest scene in the movie,” Rock said. “Karlie Redd’s nude in the movie. Karlie Redd is really good in the movie. I had never seen the show. She was just really good for the part.”
