Chandler Park Academy School District (CPA) celebrated its 25th anniversary honoring the legacy of its founder, Dr. Anthony Shipley, a lifelong educator, leader in the United Methodist Church community, and a revered figure in the Eastside community.
Dr. Shipley envisioned an innovative blueprint for educational programs aimed at enhancing student achievement. Driven by his professional expertise in program development and an unwavering commitment to education, he set his vision into motion. In 1997, with the support of the Christ United Methodist Church congregation, he took the first steps toward realizing his dream, ensuring that the Christ United Methodist Church building met all requirements and securing a charter through Saginaw Valley State University. Chandler Park Academy has since become a cornerstone of Dr. Shipley’s visionary plan.
“25 years ago, my parents sat in the kitchen of our home and dreamed of a day when the children on the Eastside of Detroit would have access to an outstanding education and a caring community. Today, we celebrate my parents’ legacy as we reflect on the first 25 years and look forward to the many more to come,” stated Cornelia Shipley Bearyman, Shipley Family Foundation Board Member. “In our community, there is a saying that goes, ‘I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams,’ and Chandler Park Academy is my parents’ dream come true. I want to extend my congratulations to the board, faculty, and staff for their unwavering commitment to realize my Dad’s vision. Thank you all for your dedication to educating our future.”
Today, CPA offers students a nurturing environment from Pre-K through 12th grade, making it a second home where learning takes center stage. Over the past 25 years, the district has prioritized the holistic development of its students, encompassing their minds, hearts, and health, with a strong emphasis on academic excellence.
The district’s commitment to academics, leadership, and character development is evident through its innovative extracurricular activities, including award-winning cheerleading, marching band, athletics, STEM programming, and community service.
