Bishop Steven J. Bennett, senior pastor and founder of the House of Prayer and Praise Church, made his transition on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015. Bishop Bennett founded the House of Prayer and Praise Church along with wife, Co-pastor Valerie Bennett, more than 25  years ago. The two started this ministry with 33 active members and by faith has planted ministries across the country and in Tapeluca, Mexico, Ghana, and South Africa.
Under the leadership of Bishop Bennett, the House of Prayer and Praise Church has grown enormously and has been a beacon of light to the community by feeding hundreds of people through the House of Prayer and Praise feeding program. Bishop Bennett also led Compassion International, a ministry to help save children from AIDS and poverty in South America and Africa. His mission was to give aid to those in need here in the city of Detroit, across this country and beyond.
In 2011, part of Wyoming Avenue in Detroit was named after Bishop Steven J. Bennett for all of his hard work and dedication to the community as a part of his 21st Pastoral Anniversary. The House of Prayer and Praise celebrated their leader by granting him this gift that will be forever remembered.
Bishop Bennett believed that marriage and family are the foundation to our culture and the fabric of our existence. His life as a husband and father was the best example to many. His family was his pride and joy.
Daughter Stephanie Pride said, “My dad was a giving, compassionate, charismatic, influential, and humbled man who gave continuously, never looking for anything in return. He loved everyone he came in contact with. My dad wasted no time, he lived live to the fullest, he loved hard, laughed hard, and gave generously. My mom, sisters and brother are thankful that the greatest gift God gave us was more time with my dad and for that we will be forever grateful.”
Bishop Bennett was a man of faith, compassion, love, wisdom and integrity with a heart of gold. He believed that no matter what it looked like, he still believed God. He will truly be missed.
Family & Friends will gather to celebrate the life of Bishop Bennett on Sunday, Feb. 15, with a public viewing at 1pm and Memorial Service at 5pm at House of Prayer and Praise located at 16520 Bishop Steven Bennett Ave. (Wyoming), Detroit, MI.
