Canvas Pontiac 2018- The Art Awakening 2018 Call For Artist

Canvas Pontiac — The Art Awakening 2018, which gives artists an opportunity to win up to $2,000 and have their work publicly displayed for one year, is open for submissions.
Any art that can be photographed — canvas paintings, watercolors, photographs, glass pieces, sculpture and more — can be submitted. The deadline for entry is May 27 at midnight. Visit canvaspontiac.com for complete details.
The top 25 pieces will be selected in a blind judging process at the newly opened Pontiac’s Little Art Theatre, then printed on 8-by-10 foot canvas and displayed on historic buildings in downtown Pontiac seen by up to 10,000 people daily. In 2017, Canvas Pontiac distributed 5,500 walking maps of the art on display.
“Canvas Pontiac is an anchor cultural event for our downtown,” said Mayor Deirdre Waterman. “This program has grown for six years and attracted a loyal following.”
The contest, held in partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts, has helped revive downtown Pontiac, said Canvas Pontiac co-chair and founder Robert Karazim of K and R Studios. “The whole philosophy of Canvas Pontiac was to help get feet on the street,” Karazim said. “Life came back to the city.”
A three-judge panel with representatives from the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Oakland University College of Arts and Sciences and a local artist will select first-, second- and third-place winners with prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and $500, respectively.
