Cannabis Business Seeking To Hire Ex-Burger King Workers

Five days after 420, a cannabis company opened a dank door to 400 former Burger King employees in the Detroit area.

The Detroit Free Press reported yesterday evening that Stiiizy, a California-based cannabis company and lifestyle brand with three retail locations and a production facility in Michigan, has offered jobs to the workers.

The laid-off employees will be offered jobs at Stiiizy’s production facility in Orion Township, which is about a 40-minute car ride from Detroit.

Ryan Jundt, who is the Michigan Managing Partner of Stiiizy’s Cannabis, told the Free Press that the company will offer between $16-$16.50 per hour to start depending on the shift and eligible for benefits, including health, dental and vision after 90 days.

Jundt said Stiizy is looking to hire 200 workers immediately and possibly 200 more as the company expands.

According to The Free Press, “Burger King workers lost their jobs when the Texas-based franchise owner of more than two dozen Burger King locations in metro Detroit announced late last month that they would permanently cease operations and close locations in Michigan. Most of the restaurant closings in Detroit.”

Another company interested in hiring the laid-off Burger King workers is the fast-food establishment’s direct competitor, McDonald’s. The restaurant chain is looking to hire 3,000 people across the state. In a phone interview with the Michigan Chronicle, Joni Thrower-Davis, the owner of the McDonald’s in Westland, is hiring with a starting wage of $14 an hour.
