Training Workshop
DEC. 2—The Duquesne University Small Business Center presents Introduction to Online Quickbooks, 9 a.m., at Rockwell Hall, Rm 108, 600 Forbes Ave. QuickBooks offers an online version for business owners and this workshop will provide a product overview including navigating, recording transactions, and reporting. Financial Statements Workshop
DEC. 6—The Duquesne University Small Business Center presents Get Behind the Numbers & Increase Your Profits, 9 a.m. to Noon at Rockwell Hall, Rm 108, 600 Forbes Ave. This hands-on workshop takes a step-by step approach to explaining two important financial statements: profit and loss statement and balance sheet. A representative from Wilke & Associates will offer clear examples for using these statements to make informed decisions, identify potential problems within your business and set realistic financial goals. Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series
DEC. 9—Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship’s will host its breakfast meeting 8-9:30 a.m. in Braun Hall, Woodland Rd. in Shadyside.  Utilizing the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank as a case study, Lisa Scales will discuss the adjustments in organizational culture, talent, and operations that are required for transformational growth in an organization. Business Energy Efficiency Grants
THROUGH APRIL 15—The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has to $1,000,000 of grant funding available in the 13th year of the Commonwealth’s Small Business Advantage Grant Program for small businesses that adopt or acquire equipment or processes that promote pollution prevention and/or energy efficiency projects. Applicants must be a for-profit corporation, limited liability corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship or other legal entity with 100 or fewer full-time employees. Businesses can apply for 50 percent matching funds of up to $9,500 to adopt or acquire energy-efficient or pollution-prevention equipment or procedures. Funding is eligible for those costs incurred between July 25, 2016 and June 30, 2017. For more information, contact the Small Business Ombudsman’s Office at 717-772-5160.
