Burgess Street Food Festival Returns: August 5-6

The much-anticipated Burgess Street Food Festival is back for its second year on August 5th and 6th, aiming to satiate the city’s food lovers while liberating their souls with music performances. The festival, operating from noon until 8:00 p.m. on both days, will transform the vibes running through Etheldra Mae Williams Park into a vibrant haven for food and good music.

Adding a dash of color and a hint of excitement, food trucks and merchandise vendors will line the street, offering an extensive range of cuisine to cater to all tastes. From hearty comfort food to exotic dishes, there promises to be something to suit every palate.

However, this year’s festival isn’t just about great food. It’s also about captivating, local musical talent that will set the stage alight with their diverse repertoire. The weekend will feature four local bands performing music spanning genres like experimental jazz, poetic rap, Gospel, and world music.

On Saturday, neo-soul singer and songwriter, Kim Joyce, will grace the festival with her acoustic guitar and soulful originals from 1:00 p.m. Later in the day, the “Heet Band” will charm the crowd with their gospel and R&B mix, performing from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Sunday will see the Groove Fellowship taking the stage from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. This band’s unique fusion of funk, rock, jazz, and R&B resonates in their original music, including tracks from their debut album, “Street Corner Musician”, released earlier this year.

As the day progresses, Sean Blackman’s “In Transit Trio” will bring an international flavor to the park, performing their “Great Global Grooves with Detroit Soul” from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Adding a layer of community service to the fun and food, the Wayne County Health Department’s mobile unit will be on site on Sunday, August 6th, providing free health screenings to attendees. All ages are welcome to benefit from this service, but parental consent will be necessary for children under the age of 18.
